Lip piercing aftercare
A piercing can take anywhere from a month to as much as six months to heal, and so it is very important that they are taken care of properly. The choice of metal used must such that it doesn’t cause any infection to the sour tissue. Make sure you follow these steps so that your lip piercing doesn’t cause any trouble to your body.
- During the 1st day of piercing avoid eating heavily and try not to smoke or drink.
- Strictly stay out of alcohol and drugs until it’s healed fully.
- When handling the piercing wash your hands and try not to infect the fresh wound.
- It is very advisable to do a saline soak once in every two days.
- Try using a tooth brush with soft bristles so that you don’t hurt the tissue and also try brushing twice a day so that you can get rid of any food particles that are stuck in there.
- Try using an oral mouthwash regularly and for the 1st two weeks it’s advisable to do use some lozenges.
- Frozen foods are a must for the initial two weeks as they help in the process of healing and reduction in pain.
- It is not advisable to practice oral sex until the wound is totally healed.
- Avoid using towels and cloth napkins as they can potentially cause infection, so it’s better to use disposable paper napkins.
- Swimming and taking dips in lakes must be avoided as much as possible until the wound is totally healed.
- Do not remove the stud or jewellery used as that can cause to fill up the hole, and it will become extremely painful when trying to insert again.
